There’s nothing I enjoy as much in drawing and photography, as the moment I succeed in capturing some of the essence of a child’s consciousness to show on a print. It might not seem apparent to look at a child, but they can be truly challenging as photography subjects, and if you ever want anything more than just a toothless “cheese”, if you want a picture that fairly drips with a child’s innocence, wit and sparkling energy, then the stock-in-trade of imagination, creativity and patience you’ll need can often be staggering. Here are my children’s photography tips on how to create moments and capture them on film in a way that the children being photographed will look at 20 years from now and say, “Yes, that is what it felt like to be me at five”.
To begin with, you can’t just pull a child in front of the camera and expect her to perform. The first lesson of children’s photography is, that you need to adjust your whole photography routine to them, because a natural smile never pops up on cue. And make sure that you don’t pick a moment when the child is sleepy, hungry or cranky. Once you have your child with you, make sure that you spend a couple of hours around the child to build up a bit of familiarity a friendly atmosphere.
The child who is your subject needs to be comfortable; this isn’t the time to insist on what outfit she should wear, and what place to frame your pictures. A child who is happy and confident about herself and her surroundings will bring forth more natural presence in her pictures. It should probably not be a place she is unfamiliar with, or she’ll be careful and a bit withdrawn (unless that’s the feel you are going for). When parents are present at the shoot, they can get terribly anxious about how they need to bring the best in the child out. It is for a reason that stage parents can be so distracting for young child actors. It could be a good idea and to help the anxious parent away from the photography area for some time. Children’s photography needs the child to be in her element – coaxing better performance out of her is hardly the way to catch her at her most natural.
And “natural” comes with patience. No end of patience. You need to understand that the child is the one that directs where the photography heads that day. You need to talk to her about her favorite toy, what she wants to do, or what a shadow reminds her of; try talking about a favorite cartoon character – and then listen. Good listening – is there no end to what there is to be gained with this great ability? The more you listen to a child, the more she will open up. And the best way to speak to a child is always to crouch down to her level. That’s something all children’s photography experts will tell you – for the most part, they have to be no taller than she is.

Top Poses to Avoid in Photography

It is rather challenging to create wonderful portrait photography if you have bad poses. Here are few of the poses to avoid in creating stunning portrait photography.
1. Never shoot the subject head on
The body position will create a block to the light flow. It will result in a very unflattering image. The broad shoulders can add at least ten pounds to the subject. As an alternative, you can angle the subject away from the camera.
2. Never face the sun
Do not let the subject face the sun as you take their picture. You can put the sun behind them to give a nice depth to your portrait and a flattering hair light.
3. Steer clear from large eye whites
You need the subject’s iris to be in the middle of their eyes. It is very unflattering if the majority of the eyes is the white area. It creates a very meager photo. You can let the subject move in to the camera’s direction and focus on a midpoint or perhaps gaze you with the eyes.
4. Avoid getting too near to a background
Do not let the subject pose to be too close to the background since you will get a solid black shadow. It is important to let the light wrap around the subject to have a softer light. It is ideal to position the subject six feet or more from the background.
5. Avoid uncomfortable poses
If it does not look natural in the picture, then it is probably not in real life. Sometimes it is fun to have silly and odd poses but the customers will not like it to have rigid and awkward poses and scenes. All they will remember from the shoot is how uncomfortable and strange they feel. And that is one thing that every photographer must avoid to keep clients coming back for your services.

5 Tips For Taking Digital Photography From the Airplane

A common mistake that people make when taking shots from the camera is to put the lens of the camera right against the window pane of the airplane. We normally do this hoping that it will cut down on the reflections. People also do this to take a steady shot. Now, resting your camera on the window pane might help you to decrease the reflection but it will never help in taking a steady shot. If you rest the camera on window pane the camera will shake a lot more owing to the vibrations of the airplane.
If you are using a DSLR with fitted lens what you can do is that attach the lens hood to the lens. This way you will get closer to the window without really touching it. This is the best strategy to take a beautiful picture. Now, use your free hand to cup the lens, this way you will be able to protect it from the reflections. Now the best way to take an aerial shot is to shoot from an open window from a proper altitude. But since most of us cannot do it, the next best option is to shoot from the window of an airplane.
Below are five tips for taking digital photography from the window of an airplane:
When you plan to take a picture from the window of an airplane, switch your camera from the auto focus to the manual focus. The reason is that the camera gets confused when you are shooting through the glass. When you switch to the manual focus mode and lock the focus on the main focal point you will achieve better results.
Windows of the airplane will often ice up or get condensed when you are flying for a long period of time. Therefore, you must make it a point to shoot early. Your shots will be much clearer and better.
If you are looking for the aerial shots of the ground, there will be fewer opportunities when you would be able to do it. Therefore, the key is to be ready for those moments. These opportunities occur when the plane begins to bank off before landing or after taking off. You will get very few opportunities to capture these shots. Therefore, always be ready to shot at the right moment.
Always turn off the flash when you shoot from an airplane. The reason is that a flash will not be of any help. An in-built flash will only work for a few meters and will aggravate the problem of reflection.
There are times when the scene outside the airplane is just breathtaking. These are the scenes that you will never want to miss. But after you have captured these scenes you would really feel that they do nothing to inspire you. When shooting from airplane look for a main subject that will bring light on your photograph.

Digital Photography Shots Worth Capturing in New York City

It would not be easy to write an article on digital photography without mentioning New York City at some stage along the way. If its great digital photography shots that you want then NYC has a way of throwing up the unexpected and giving you some great capture moments.
If your looking for the real hustle and bustle shots while visiting, there is one location that I can recommend for this digital photography shot. It has to be Times Square on 42nd street. You have the workers, tourists, cyclists, taxis and best of all the lights. You could spend hours here capturing the different crowds, using different angles and locations and playing with the different modes on your camera. Remember to take lots of shots using the different modes settings on your camera as you can always delete the shots you don’t want.
If your looking for a quiet, calm and peaceful setting for capturing some shots then why not try Central Park. This large park has some great locations for capturing all types of different digital photography shots. If its not some of the impressive buildings surrounding it that captures you then you can find families out strolling, cyclists and roller skaters whizzing along side by side and even squirrels and birds moving around the park.
Further up in the park you have some lakes with ducks and even one lake where you can rent out a rowing boat, from which you can get some great photographs.
Well the last point or aspect that I will mention in this article is New York Cities sheer size and building height. There is no way that any photograph collection would be complete without visiting the top of some of the tallest buildings in the city.
The one I recommend is of course the Empire State Building. From the top of this building you get a 360 degree panoramic view and it is quite impressive.
It is worth knowing before you go that the earlier in the morning you arrive on top of this building then the better it will be for you getting the shots that you want. It does get crowded with people and everyone is trying hard to capture that perfect picture.
Hopefully these few insights will help you to capture that great digital photography shot if you do at some stage visit New York City. I could write all day about others but these three locations will offer you some great photograph opportunities.

Here I will layout a few basic digital photography tips that will help most beginners start off in the world of digital photography. Digital photography itself can be a big step forward from the old style photography which some people would know. Hopefully these few tips will help you to feel at home with your new camera.
Firstly before starting off always read your digital cameras user manual, this sounds stupid but its surprising to know that most people will throw theirs out and never read it. The users manual will tell you all you need to know about the camera itself and the functions and different settings available on the camera. Most importantly it will tell you how long to charge your camera battery before you use the camera at all. Sometimes if the battery is not charged for the correct period at the start you will never get the proper life time from the battery.
Another note I would like to add on the battery issue is never leave your camera lying for long periods with the battery still in it. If its not in use for long periods then remove the battery. Don’t take the risk of damage.
Secondly if your in a town or city why not look around and see if you a have a camera club near by where you live. Even if there is a local college in the area they may have a camera club. It will definitely help to be able to ask people questions one to one and get peoples views and opinions. Sometimes they will have talks or competitions which will give you new ideas and you will learn to use your camera in different ways.
Learning the basics of camera use is very important because a digital camera can be expensive depending on the camera specification. There’s not much point paying big money for a high specification camera when you dont know what most of the camera settings are for.
When you have read the users manual and properly charged and installed the battery, your ready to start taking photographs. At this stage a lot of new digital photographers will just start clicking away. But its the same as all photography you must hold your camera steady and push the shoot button gently.
Sometimes digital cameras can be small and feel very light when your handling them, but you must still hold them steady when taking photographs. There’s no point in having a one off picture opportunity only to see later that the picture has been shaken. This will not be as important with buildings or landscape photographs as you can take them over a few times and just delete the ones you don’t want.

Recently, during availability business tour I stayed with my old friend MR. C. Botham for one week. Entire stay was superb and I was greatly impressed with hospitality skill of his wife Mrs. Clarton. During my stay, I came to know that Clarton was at the very early stage of pregnancy. When I asked about the maternity photography, both of them were confused. I decided to eliminate their doubts because I did not want them to be refrain from the pleasure of photography. I explored their queries, which were like this:
Why we should go for maternity photography?
Maternity photography is different from other kinds of photography, done on various occasions, in many ways. It has more sentimental and emotional values. The maternity photographs have same worth not only for life but even after you. It further strengthens the relationship bonds between the parents and children.
Is it safe for mother and child?
Scientific researches have proved that it is 100% safe for the in womb child and mother. Photographic rays do not affect the growth of baby in any way.
How much costly it is
It is you who decide the cost of photography. The overall cost will depend upon the number of sessions, no. of photographs per session and the locations. You can manage it by scheduling the sessions wisely. Balance mix of indoor and outdoor sessions keeps the cost of maternity photography within reasonable limits.
Do we need any special preparation?
No, you do not need to take many pains for the preparation. The main focus of maternity photography remains upon making the photographs natural and to capture the bodily developments. However, good apparel stores offer maternity or pregnancy period dresses, which are more comfortable.
How many sessions would be enough?
It is you, who will decide. You should divide the entire pregnancy in equal spans. Try to keep earlier session outdoor because during this period you feel comfortable in moving.
