The exposure in a digital camera is governed by three main factors namely the ISO, the aperture and the shutter speed. While the ISO is the unit which represents the digital camera sensor’s sensitivity to light, the aperture refers to the size of opening in the lens at the time of taking the picture, and finally the shutter speed indicates the length of time during which the shutter remains open. Since these factors are sacred elements of exposure, they are collectively referred to as the exposure triangle.

The foremost among these is the recommendation to hold the right side of the camera with one’s right hand in such a way that while the forefinger hovers over the shutter release, the other three fingers are curled in front of the camera and the thumb grips the back of the camera.

Here I am going to run through a few tips for digital photography which will help you while out taking photographs or setting up a photo shoot. Some of you might know these but I am sure there is some here to help someone.
The standard digital camera has many settings and the setting that it generally is in when it is bought is the auto setting. The auto setting is the normal white balance setting for all cameras. People generally buy a camera and leave it on the auto setting all the time and never change it.
Now the problem here is that the auto setting is a bright and crisp setting which can sometimes leave your photographs feeling sharp and coldish.
For something a bit different change the setting on your camera to the cloudy setting especially if its a bright or sunny day. What this does is that it allows more red coloring to come through in your pictures which in turn makes your photographs feel warmer.
This is a nice tip to remember if you are taking pictures of a family member or child, especially outside. Try it for yourself. Take two photos of the same shot, one on the auto setting and one with the cloudy setting. Load them onto your computer side by side and check for the difference.
Another tip which most people don’t do but I recommend, is getting yourself a tripod. A tripod is a very handy and useful piece of digital camera equipment. Remember what I said earlier about the auto and cloudy settings above, taking two identical shots of the same subject using different settings. Well what better way to make sure no human error affects your pictures, and no matter what setting you are using the shots should be the same.
If you have spotted a great picture opportunity like a harbour with boats, find a location you are happy with. Set up the camera and tripod and take for example 4 shots on various settings then move to another location and do the same thing again. Remember that you can never take enough pictures as you can always delete the ones you don’t want.
All you are looking for is that one great shot but you might have to take 50 or more pictures to get it. But at least when you are deleting the photos you’re not happy with at the end, it won’t be due to shaky pictures or the camera not being held level.
I hope that these few tips for taking digital photography will help you in some way to achieving great shots and remember not to be worried about taking too many photographs. Change the settings, change locations and angles as you can always delete the ones you aren’t happy with.

Digital Photography Shots Worth Capturing in New York City

It would not be easy to write an article on digital photography without mentioning New York City at some stage along the way. If its great digital photography shots that you want then NYC has a way of throwing up the unexpected and giving you some great capture moments.
If your looking for the real hustle and bustle shots while visiting, there is one location that I can recommend for this digital photography shot. It has to be Times Square on 42nd street. You have the workers, tourists, cyclists, taxis and best of all the lights. You could spend hours here capturing the different crowds, using different angles and locations and playing with the different modes on your camera. Remember to take lots of shots using the different modes settings on your camera as you can always delete the shots you don’t want.
If your looking for a quiet, calm and peaceful setting for capturing some shots then why not try Central Park. This large park has some great locations for capturing all types of different digital photography shots. If its not some of the impressive buildings surrounding it that captures you then you can find families out strolling, cyclists and roller skaters whizzing along side by side and even squirrels and birds moving around the park.
Further up in the park you have some lakes with ducks and even one lake where you can rent out a rowing boat, from which you can get some great photographs.
Well the last point or aspect that I will mention in this article is New York Cities sheer size and building height. There is no way that any photograph collection would be complete without visiting the top of some of the tallest buildings in the city.
The one I recommend is of course the Empire State Building. From the top of this building you get a 360 degree panoramic view and it is quite impressive.
It is worth knowing before you go that the earlier in the morning you arrive on top of this building then the better it will be for you getting the shots that you want. It does get crowded with people and everyone is trying hard to capture that perfect picture.

Here I will layout a few basic digital photography tips that will help most beginners start off in the world of digital photography. Secondly if your in a town or city why not look around and see if you a have a camera club near by where you live. Even if there is a local college in the area they may have a camera club. It will definitely help to be able to ask people questions one to one and get peoples views and opinions. Sometimes they will have talks or competitions which will give you new ideas and you will learn to use your camera in different ways.
Learning the basics of camera use is very important because a digital camera can be expensive depending on the camera specification. There’s not much point paying big money for a high specification camera when you dont know what most of the camera settings are for.
When you have read the users manual and properly charged and installed the battery, your ready to start taking photographs. At this stage a lot of new digital photographers will just start clicking away. But its the same as all photography you must hold your camera steady and push the shoot button gently.
Sometimes digital cameras can be small and feel very light when your handling them, but you must still hold them steady when taking photographs. There’s no point in having a one off picture opportunity only to see later that the picture has been shaken. This will not be as important with buildings or landscape photographs as you can take them over a few times and just delete the ones you don’t want.

Light is the main element of a photograph. If I have to describe it in one word it would be ‘Heart’. There are two main sources of light sun and the artificial lights. But have you ever thought about fire as the primary source of light? Fire coming out of a candle or a raging inferno, are these some great moments that you really wish to capture. You can explore a new side to your creativity. Fire can take a lot of forms and each form spells out a different meaning to life. You can describe power, subtlety, warmth and heat from its different forms. There are two basic forms of fire that I have described below. You can experiment with these two forms and bring out your own meaning to life.
The first form of fire is a single flame. Now, there isn’t mush problem in shooting a single flame right? It really is simple. But when you attempt capturing the flame on the camera, you would come to know how difficult can it be. Now for this experiment you just require a single candle, a dark place, tripod or a strong surface to hold the camera. Here it is best to shift to manual focus, and keep your focus at the end of the wick. The flame will not be in super focus because it is producing light and is also a 3D object. That means the intensity and the point of focus on it will vary.
If your camera has spot meters then use it and take the reading of the flame. The image you will get to see will be darker than normal, slow down the shutter speed and overexpose the frame a little. If you want the photo to have the flame straight then ensure that there are no drafts around to move the flame.
