I enjoy Photoshop but have found that online tutorials can only help so much. For instance, I still don't understand the masking very well. I post pictures of my weddings all the time, and I'm sure that understanding it better would make my blog more professional looking.

I face the same problem when taking pictures of my jewellery products. The silver is particularly reflective and the way round it is to use a light tent to diffuse the light. Sometimes in addition, you need to work with fabrics and colours and create a relfection that works for you.

It is true that there are many tutorials that can help you with photoshop. A good way to learn is to re-create those tutorials and you will find some steps that will be of use to you and learn features and shortcuts that you did not know about

With Photoshop I think it's best to try 2 or 3 ways of doing the same thing and then work out which is best for you.

Simple but useful advices. To my mind, the best way to start learning photoshop tricks is to watch video tutorials and do all the actions that are being shown. Text tutorials are often more complicated and require some experience to be understood, while video tutorials are more detailed and easier to understand.
So, my personal recomendation for beginners - do video tutorials at first and after that try learning from text ones :). Good luck.

I started into photoshop, and graphic design with photo restoration after watching some online tutorials. I was hooked on photoshop, and soon became very proficient in graphic design. Great place to start with photoshop. -will

To Jon and his reflective cars. You are right, it\'s very hard to fix reflections perfectly on a high-resolution image. Cloning etc can help, but it can take hours to get perfect as it\'s hard to match real-life contours in photoshop.

When shooting cars invest in some textiles to stretch along the length of the car about 2-3m away from the bodywork and let that show in the reflections rather than what is in the garage/driveway/parkinglot. If you study car photography you\'ll see beautiful white lengths of reflections along panels, and often they set up sheets/panels of either white or black to specifically show up in the reflections. It takes time, but a lot less time than doing a perfect photoshop job.

Photoshop is amazing, but don\'t let it take away from the basis of good photography.

The tip you gave about YouTube was great. I would have never checked there. I never knew they had that much information on Photoshop.
