gradient map in photoshop is excellent when converting colour to black and white to deepen the blacks, sometimes a colour photo when desaturated to turn black and white can look a little grey and white rather than black and white, so make use of the gradient map and play around with it you\’ll be suprised how it can deepen the blacks.
Photoshop has to be one of the best pieces of software you can own on a computer. So many useful functions.

I’ve heard a lot of great things about photoshop, I should probably get it. I don’t understand the program that I do have. All I want to do is scan ancestor photos onto my computer to upload them online.

these steps are essential i agree also i will add that you must be careful when adjusting the size of your picture. the contrast of a black and white pick can be ruined easily
